●"If" is a poem written by Rudyard Kipling in around 1895 although it wasnt published until 1910.
●The poem was written as a tribute to Leander Starr Jameson who assembled a private army (I guess wed call them mercenaries now!) to try to overthrow the Boer government.
●Part of the poem ("If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster / and treat those two impostors just the same") is reproduced on the wall of the players entrance to the Centre Court at Wimbledon. In 1996 it was voted the UKs favourite poem.
