Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, was a Brazilian football legend born on October 23, 1940. Renowned as the greatest footballer in history, Pelés career spanned from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s. He rose to prominence with Santos FC in Brazil, winning multiple domestic titles, including six São Paulo State Championships and two Copa Libertadores. Pelés international breakthrough came at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, where, at just 17 years old, he led Brazil to victory, becoming the youngest player to win a World Cup. He repeated this triumph in 1962, solidifying his status as a football prodigy. His remarkable goal-scoring ability and technical prowess earned him three World Player of the Year awards during his career. In 1970, Pelé secured his third World Cup title in Mexico, an unprecedented feat. He retired from international football in 1971 with 77 goals in 92 appearances for Brazil. Pelé also had a storied club career with the New York team in the North American Soccer League, contributing to the growth of soccer in the United States.
