The English Soap Company - Our Story

We make every product ourselves at our site in the heart of the English Sussex Countryside. All products are hand finished before going out, ensuring quality and care from inception to finish.

All of our soaps and candles are pure vegetable based, vegan, and are not tested on animals whilst our liquids & cream toiletries are SLS & Paraben free.

The English Soap Company’s mission is to ensure that everything we do upholds the values of what is expected in an English product. That means a dedication to quality whilst offering honest and fair value.

Our Soaps are made from pure vegetable oils to which we add generous amounts of vegetable derived glycerine and shea butter from the African Karite tree to ensure that the bar both moisturises and nourishes the skin.

To ensure that the texture of the bar is smooth and silky we use a triple blending and refining process to ensure the mix is perfectly smooth before it goes to be pressed.

Made in Sussex, England

For over 20 years, The English Soap Company has been perfecting the art of soap making. Beautifully packaged in recyclable illustrated paper wraps, each soap bar is a plastic-free alternative enriched with shea butter and bursting with fine fragrance. A soap that is smooth and silky in texture, moisturises rather than dries the skin and above all is infused with a luxurious scent that lasts until the end of the bar.

How we make our soap

The English Soap Company soap bars are made in England with pure vegetable oils using traditional soap making methods that we have used for the past 20 years. As a result, our soap bars are exceptionally high quality and last far longer than standard soaps. They produce a richer lather and have a silkier, more luxurious effect on the skin. We make every product ourselves in the heart of the Sussex countryside, using the finest quality ingredients. All our perfumes are made in England by expert perfumers and have been designed specifically for the English Soap Company.

Enriched with Shea Butter

Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nuts of the shea tree, native to West Africa. Shea butter has been used as a cosmetic ingredient for centuries. Its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids make it a great product for smoothing, soothing and conditioning your skin.

How does soap work?

The purpose of washing is to remove the outer layer of oils and fats that harbour germs and rinse them away from the skin. Soap is a surfactant which means that when used on the skin, the soap molecules bind water and oil molecules together. After cleansing with soap, rinsing away the lather takes the oil and germs with it.

Small changes in product size and weight lead to lower carbon emissions.

We created Compact by Design to identify products that, while they may not always look very different, have a more efficient design. With the removal of excess air and water, products require less packaging and become more efficient to dispatch. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.

Here are a few of the many ways products can qualify:
