The North Face Heritage

1966

Doug Tompkins opens a high-end ski and camping gear store in North Beach, San Francisco. He names the store The North Face as in the Northern Hemisphere, the north face of a mountain is generally the coldest, iciest and most challenging route to climb.

1968

Hap Klopp acquires The North Face and starts manufacturing gear under The North Face brand name. The logo inspired by Half Dome in Yosemite is created and is still the one we see on modern day products.

1997

The North Face adopts a new tagline Never Stop Exploring which has become a modern day mantra for explorers around the globe.
