Kookaburra Sport traces its roots back to 1890 when it was founded in Melbourne by Alfred Grace (AG) Thompson, a skilled saddler and harness maker. Born in St Ives, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire in 1863, AG honed his craft under the guidance of his father, William, a Scotsman. His journey continued in London at Laurie and Marner, Carriage and Harness makers to Royalty.

Originally trading under the name AG Thompson, Kookaburra Sport adopted the iconic "Kookaburra" as its product brand. The inspiration behind this choice came from AGs close companion, a Kookaburra named Jacky, who lived in the peppercorn tree outside AGs residence and workshop in Bay Street, Brighton.

Fast forward 130 years, and Kookaburra Sport proudly remains a 100% Australian family-owned business. Today, fourth and fifth-generation members of the Thompson family carry on the legacy, actively contributing at the Head Office in Melbourne, as well as in additional offices in India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and through an agency in South Africa. With a global team of over 200 dedicated individuals, our commitment to quality and heritage endures.

As leading sports equipment manufacturers, we specialize in crafting cricket and field hockey balls and equipment, along with bespoke teamwear, clothing, and footwear. Our passion for sports and unwavering dedication to excellence continue to drive us forward.
