●Genuine Irish Bodhran

Description

Beautifully and skillfully designed, 12" Made in Ireland by Paraic McNeela. Comes with a drummer and a DVD. Occasionally, the pattern may differ from the one shown in the photo. Paraic McNeela is an expert bodhran manufacturer based in Dublin, Ireland. When he began making bodhrans, Paraic joined a fraternity known as The Bodhran Makers. Bodhran makers shared their knowledge and experiences together in the complexes of Bodhran making. Since then, Paraic has been one of the only members of this fraternity that still produces bodhrans. "I am very proud of the sound I receive from my bodhrans. A bodhran is a bass drum and should sound like a bass drum. Some bodhrans are very sharp and may look like a snare drum (without the snare drum). Bodhran making is a fun job with a stable market and meeting new interesting customers is an added bonus. There are always challenges; new drummers to design and make, a new bodhran design and repairs on old bodhran to be made. When I repair and re-stretch the old skins on older bodhrans, it is a pleasure to see the old drum come back to life. I even repaired one of the Riverdance drums." Paraic says there is still a lot he needs to reach. He now focuses on experimenting with different woods like his new rosewood tunable Bodhran, new shapes and sizes, and always improving and changing tuning systems. For example, he is working on a tuning system that does not require an Allen key. A tunable bodhran that can be tuned by hand as players often forget their Allen key, and even he sometimes forgets his Allen key in the workshop. "I am also working on a maple frame that shows the wood grain very clearly and looks beautiful.
